Ames, Iowa - May Day Protests - May 2025

Like most people, I have political leanings. I'm not going to get into what they are, because why have an argument on the internet. However, there was a May Day Protest at our city's outdoor bandshell. Here are some photos from that day.

C came with me, so he'll appear in a few of these photos.

Protesters holding a white sign with text "Stop the hate, Impeach now" in red and black. Outdoor setting with blurred background.
Child in a hoodie holds a sign saying "FUND OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS" at a park protest. Overcast, grassy setting, people in background.
There's my boy! The first part of the event was holding up signs along Duff Avenue. Most reactions were good; some were not.
Protesters hold signs against Trump outdoors. Umbrellas are visible, and one sign reads "MAGA Christians in Name Only." Overcast mood.
Protest scene with people holding signs. One says "Not My King" with a cartoon pig. Background shows trees and buildings.
I don't know if this guy downloaded that image off the internet or drew it himself; I really want to think that he freehanded it. No matter your political leanings, it's impressive art.
Man with a "Stop the Idiocy" sign and a dog with a "Goldens for Ethical Leaders" sign walking on grassy park path, trees in background.
Golden Retriever sitting on grass, wearing a sign that reads "GOLDENS FOR ETHICAL LEADERS." The mood is cheerful and playful.
People holding protest signs on a street, one depicting "Fascist Cult." Background shows trees and traffic signs. Mood is serious.
Man in cap holds protest sign reading "MAYDAY! AMERICA IS UNDER ATTACK. NO KINGS" in a park. Others in background, trees visible.
Group of people at a protest holds signs with messages like "Nope!" and "History Has its Eyes on Us!" in a park, trees in background.
People stand in a park, one holding a sign reading "Too Much Outrage To Fit On One Sign." Overcast mood, trees and building in background.
Person holding a sign reading "JESUS is a Victim of Identity Theft." Wearing a blue plaid shirt, standing on grass. Emotional protest atmosphere.
I want to know the story of the spell-checking on this sign. Do they have an editor? Did they notice it themselves? Did they not want to turn the "I" into a "t" and then squish in another "I"? I want to know what happened, because I really enjoy the self-awareness.
People holding protest signs in a park. One sign reads "Say No Privatization," another "Make Education Great Again." Stroller and playground visible.
Protesters holding signs with messages like "I'm tired of living like it's 1984." Outdoors, trees in the background, serious mood.
People in red raincoats holding signs at a protest. A man sits with a "hands off our US Post Office" sign. Green grass and trees in the background.
People hold protest signs reading "Hands off Unions" and "Say No Privatization" in a park. A child holds a "Hands off Libraries" sign.
People holding protest signs in a park with messages like "SOS" and "Hands Off Libraries." A little girl on the grass holds a similar sign.
Child holds a sign reading "Fund Our Public School" in large letters, standing in a grassy area near an arched structure, with trees in the background.

C and I were front row for the speeches hanging out with one of our district's state representatives. We have some fantastic reps in town.

My name is Angie.  I find normal to be largely boring.  I am really lucky to get to spend time behind my camera doing all kinds of fun things, and also super-really annoying my kids by taking a million photos of them.
