Iowa State Fair Photography Salon - 2025

Now that the Iowa State Fair is weeks past, I can post my results from the Iowa State Fair Photography Salon 2025.

As usual, I entered four photos. I generally have friends and family vote on what I should enter, and that informs my decision. (Please comment on this blog if you'd be interested in joining that group!)

Obligatory photo of my super-confusing admission card:

Yellow flyer for 2025 Iowa State Fair Photography Salon. Includes judging results instructions and photo pick-up info. Hand holding flyer.

Here are the three that were selected:

Young boy in a blue shirt with suspenders stands by a fence, serious expression. Red barn in the blurry background, sunny day.
Family Farm
Sunlit gothic window with green vines, old stone walls, and pebble floor; lush garden visible through arch, creating a serene mood.
International Places - Color
Girls playing soccer on a field; one covers her face in distress. Others stand around in black and white uniforms. Cloudy sky background.
Sports

Of the three above, I think maybe the sports one is my favorite. I love the second photo of a window at St. Dunstan-In-the-East, as well - it's a fascinating story, an old church in London that first got burnt in the Great Fire. It was rebuilt, and then got shelled during the Blitz. The city decided at that point to make it into a public garden by letting it overgrow, and I love it so much. I was contacted by two people who wanted to buy it!

And the turd of the group. This photo is of one of the Ravens of the Tower of London - I actually like this photo, so I guess whatever on it not being selected!

Black and white image of a crow in flight, wings spread. Background includes a blurred sign and wall. The scene feels dramatic and focused.
Animals - Black & White

That is this year's grouping! No awards this year, which was a bummer, but I have to be super grateful to have any in.

My name is Angie.  I find normal to be largely boring.  I am really lucky to get to spend time behind my camera doing all kinds of fun things, and also super-really annoying my kids by taking a million photos of them.
