London, England - Warner Brothers Studios Harry Potter Tour - August 2024

The last of our activities on London day 3 was to finish the rest of the tour of the Harry Potter sets and such at Warner Brothers Studios in Leavesden. When A was little, she and I read the Harry Potter books. While we've largely moved on, and JK Rowling is obviously problematic, it was definitely nostalgic and fascinating.

Two faceless mannequins in wizard robes; backdrop with "Have You Seen This Wizard?" poster; dim, magical atmosphere.
Sirius and Harry's costumes from Prisoner of Azkaban.

Ornate mirror with Gothic design reflecting visitors in a dimly lit setting. Engraved text on top and soft blue and gold hues.
A and I reflected in the Mirror of Erised, looking exactly as we are. That's prescient.

A robed figure stands in a dim, book-filled library with an ornate desk. A red bird perches nearby. Blue lighting creates a mystical atmosphere.
Dumbledore's office set, including his costume and Fawkes.

A mystical creature stands on rocks in a dark, misty cave. The blue-lit scene creates an eerie, mysterious atmosphere. No text visible.
The Forbidden Forest

Large ornate bronze door with intertwined snake sculptures in a dimly lit setting, creating a mysterious and ancient atmosphere.
The Chamber of Secrets lay beyond, but nobody in our group spoke Parseltongue.

Red steam locomotive in a dimly lit museum with steam rising and "Hogwarts Railways" text. Arched ceiling and purple floor add ambiance.
This is the actual Hogwarts Express. We got to walk through it; each car depicted a scene on the Express from a different movie.

Woman with curly hair smiling through intricate wooden balcony with arched patterns. Background shows a stone building and bright sky.
A on the bridge set from the front of Hogwarts.

People in a greenhouse observe potted plants. Large leaves cover walls. Wooden tables, glass ceiling, and hanging lights are visible.
The set, costume, and several props from the Herbology classroom.

People gather outside a brick house, queueing to enter. Signs read "Privet Drive." The mood is curious. Sky is clear, setting is suburban.
The actual #4 Privet Drive! We got to walk through.

Letters floating in a cozy living room with vintage furniture and warm lighting. Brown, patterned wallpaper and curtains add to the nostalgic feel.
In the living room of 4 Privet Drive - I didn't try to smuggle any of Harry's letters.

Young woman smiling in a greenhouse, holding a plant with sculpted roots resembling hands. She's in a white top and floral skirt.
A trying to repot a mandrake. They were super-creepy.

Goblins seated at desks in a dimly lit, stone-walled bank with glowing lamps. Papers and scales are visible, creating a serious atmosphere.
Several of the goblins on the reconstructed set from Gringotts

Crowd on a magical-themed street with colorful shop fronts. A giant figure in a top hat leans out from an orange window. Signs read "Quidditch."
This set was the actual Diagon Alley. We got to peer in each of the windows.

Model of a large castle with tall, pointed towers bathed in warm light, set against a dark background with star-like light effects.
There wasn't a full-size Hogwarts ever built; this miniature was used for all of the castle shots. It took up most of a good-sized room, so it was plenty large.

My name is Angie.  I find normal to be largely boring.  I am really lucky to get to spend time behind my camera doing all kinds of fun things, and also super-really annoying my kids by taking a million photos of them.
