Happy New Year! My friend Chris at www.photography139.com has always done a year-end wrap-up on his photo blog, so I am just abjectly stealing it from him. Sorry, Chris - I'm the Verve to your Rolling Stones. So, similarly - sue me.
2025 was a pretty great year for our home life, if it was a dumpster fire in the greater scheme of themes. We spent a lot of time together, traveled together, enjoyed hobbies and activities together, and just generally had a good time.

But, you ask, this is a photography website - where are the statistics about individual photos? Well, wix.com does not have that type of granular data at this time, so I don't know.
Everyone started taking a queue from Spotify's Wrapped this year, so here are some random "top" numbers from across apps and whatnot.
Instagram Top 9

Spotify Wrapped

I didn't listen to as many minutes as normal this year because I am on meetings all of the time in my new role (which I'm not mad at, it just is a different dynamic). But here are some of those details broken down to be more visible:
If you possibly care to see the details, you can click to expand.
Flighty - Passport
Flighty is a cool little app that keeps track of a lot of flight-related things for you. How many miles you flew in a year, how many times on average a flight is delayed to help you decide which flights to pick, airline metrics, etc. Anyway, here's mine for this year:

The flights were:
Minneapolis to/from Dublin
Chicago to/from Montreal
Montreal to/from Willemstad, Curacao
Des Moines to/from Las Vegas
We drove to Chicago twice for fun long weekends, in addition to the visit there to fly to/from Montreal.
We don't have any big huge international trips or anything planned in 2026. I do have a solo/potentially with a girlfriend trip to the way northeast US planned in September currently. We'll also be doing a small family trip at some point, and are currently kicking around Massachusetts.
Kindle
I usually read ~80 books a year, give or take. Here are this year's metrics:

I only read 48 books this year, which is waaaaay below my average. This was for a couple of reasons, however. I started a book club, and we all take turns picking a book for the month - some are quicker reads than others, and there are some that capture me more than others. The other reason is that some of the books I read on my own are sort of self-flagellation. I don't think anybody can read Tess of the d'Urbervilles and not want to put their head in the nearest oven a little bit. It's just not a quick read because it's so morose.
Concerts/Shows
I don't have a cute little app or anything that tracks the concerts and shows I attended this year, but here is a quick list of the tickets I purchased and whether or not I attended:
Feb. 1, 2025 - Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Des Moines Civic Center) - attended with CRD and friends
April 11, 2025 - Bill Murray & His Blood Brothers - attended with friends/JTD
April 23, 2025 - act as a caller for a rehearsal of Everybody's Live with John Mulaney - attended, talked with John Mulaney
April 26, 2025 - Romeo & Juliet (ballet at Hilton Auditorium) - attended with AKD
May 1, 2025 - Electric Six - JTD and I skipped out due to a busy week
June 1, 2025 - Josh Johnson (comedian at Hoyt Sherman) - attended with JTD
June 12, 2025 - Waitress (musical at Des Moines Civic Center) - attended with friend
June 22, 2025 - Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Hidden In Pieces" (Chicago Theater) - attended by myself; had to sell AKD's ticket as she had a UCLA writing workshop
June 24, 2025 - Beck with Des Moines Symphony - did not attend, gave away tickets due to conflict with AKD's workshop
August 1, 2025 - Hinterland (Tyler the Creator) - did not attend, sold tickets due to conflict with AKD's workshop
October 1, 2025 - Father John Misty (Val Air Ballroom) - attended with AKD
October 9, 2025 - The Great Gatsby (ballet at Hilton Auditorium) - attended with AKD
I attended 9 of the 12, for 75% attendance. We also went to several shows at the high school where AKD either performed or did costumes and other tech work. CRD also had an orchestra concert in the spring. All in all, I feel like we got out a good deal but I don't love that we either sold/gave away/wasted a few tickets. (The Electric Six ones cost about $20 for the two of us, so that wasn't a huge deal.) We likely won't do as many this year - I don't need to see anyone in the Hinterland lineup, and the only tickets we have are for Nate Bargatze and The Last Dinner Party. We'll see what else happens.
Iowa School Board Awards
I attend as many school board things as I can get to practically. The state's association, Iowa Association of School Boards, gives out points for attendance at different events and awards those over a certain threshold. I've gotten it the last two years - this just basically explains that I've spent a lot of time on school board things:
*********
I can't think of any other metrics that are at all interesting (not that the above are fascinating or anything). I could count how many times I worked in the office (usually about 2x/week), but won't. I really only look at others' Snaps, so that's not useful. I don't really like TikTok, so I don't have a lot going on there, or even on YouTube. Maybe Costco has a thing where it will total up for us how much money we spent there; that is scarier than the Stranger Things finale.
