Ames, Iowa - Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon RF - May 2025

When I got my new mirrorless camera, I got a little adapter so that I could use the pricy Canon EF lenses from my 5D Mark III on the new R10 (which only uses RF lenses). The problem is that it wasn't quite as crisp for photos as I would like it to be, so I did a bunch of research. The Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon RF had great reviews, and had a similar-ish zoom range to my EF lens.

I cracked it out the day that it came in the mail, and took some sample images around the house. Here are a few from that batch.

Withered plant in a black pot on a light surface. Dry, curled leaves on green stems convey neglect or decay. Soft focus background.
Thank goodness A forgot to water this plant. Made sort of an interesting test of depth.
Man with glasses stands on porch, arms crossed, wearing a gray T-shirt with a bold white design. Background shows a door and siding.
Stoic J.
Close-up of bright green leaves with small red buds on a plant, set against a blurred green background, conveying a fresh, natural vibe.
Close-up of textured gray strings arranged vertically on a loom, creating a herringbone pattern. Background is blurred; no text visible.
This is the back of one of our porch rocking chairs. I just like the design of the weave on each cable-y thing.
Rusty nail securing tangled wire on a wooden plank, with a blurred green background creating a serene, rustic feel.
I don't really have a wait to explain what this is (it will appear again a few photos down). When C was about 5 or 6, all he wanted were some tools, so we got him a little tool set. He went through a phase where he kept nailing or screwing items into boards and then wrapping metal wire around them. This one has been out on our deck for forever, hence the rust.
Close-up of a fluffy, cream-colored dog with curly fur, smiling with tongue out. Neutral background. Mood is joyful and friendly.
The sweetest, dopiest dog!
Curly-haired dog with tan and white fur looks up, mouth open in a friendly manner. Background is blurred gray.

My name is Angie.  I find normal to be largely boring.  I am really lucky to get to spend time behind my camera doing all kinds of fun things, and also super-really annoying my kids by taking a million photos of them.
