Cancun - April 2023

J and I were set to go to Cancun in April 2023 with two of our favorite couples. Our one set couldn't make it due to horrific circumstances, and unfortunately the other two of us sets of couples didn't purchase the refundable rooms, so we ended up going.

I didn't take a good camera at all to Cancun, as we were mostly on a big resort at the time. I generally prefer small boutique resorts, but this was fun because of the company!

Here are just a few photos:

Cancun, Mexico
The beach was beautiful - but so stinky. There was a giant sargassum mass that hit Cancun at the time - it's terrible-smelling seaweed. There were certain parts of the resort where you could barely walk, including a "stink tunnel" between buildings.

I ordered this monkey coconut drink because monkey coconut drink.. I don't drink much ever, so I got one sip in and I handed it directly to J. I would not have been able to walk after this!

Sargassum in Cancun.
That entire brownish-green line along the shore? That's the sargassum. Stink seaweed. (Also, you can tell from this photo that I was using a phone camera.) It really encouraged one to stay in the pool rather than at the beach.

A silent disco.
This is not AI.

Just because I think it's hilarious - one of the nights, the resort had a silent disco. In case you're not familiar with the concept, everyone wears headphones. There were something like three different channels (90s rap, current pop, and disco or something), and you could tune into any one of the three.

From the above still photo, it looks kind of cool and crazy. Because I think it's incredibly funny to watch, the video below shows it in real time. Shortly got low, indeed.

My name is Angie.  I find normal to be largely boring.  I am really lucky to get to spend time behind my camera doing all kinds of fun things, and also super-really annoying my kids by taking a million photos of them.
