Halloween - October 2016

In 2016, we had a pretty fun Halloween. C was a pretty established toddler by this point, so he went to his first few houses to trick-or-treat. A had a pretty great friend group, so she was excited to see several of them while out and about.

A - age 6 - Hermione Granger (we had been reading the first Harry Potter book, and she greatly identified with the smart girl with curly hair)

C - age 2 - a shark (but not Baby Shark)

Most of these photos are not edited great; they are better than some of the ones I did not pick, however. I was pretty new still to digital photography, so keep that in mind.

Two kids in costumes sit on a bench. One wears a shark suit with a pacifier, the other is in a robe and tie. A decorated pumpkin is beside them.
The pacifier (which he called a "nee-nee") was not our favorite, but it was the only way he would ever nap even a little. (He had just awoken here.) Something like 80% of parenting is knowing how to pick your battles.

Child in school uniform grins on a bench next to three pumpkins, one with a playful face. Background is a white wall. Cozy mood.
Most of these photos are not edited very well - I was pretty early days with my good camera. But A glowed here, even with bad editing on my part.

Toddler in shark costume holding orange pumpkin bucket walks through fallen leaves on sidewalk. Autumn setting, playful mood.
One of my favorite things about this shark costume is that I have a photo of him wearing it probably 2 years later (the boy is tiny), lying on the ground throwing a tantrum while rolling around in a shark costume. I did not not laugh.

Child in gray shark costume lies on colorful autumn leaves, holding an orange pumpkin bucket. The mood is playful and cozy.
One might think that C was leisurely lounging in the leaves. ...He was not. He was doing somersaults in a shark costume, and occasionally putting leaves and acorns in his mouth.

Child in glasses, dressed as a wizard with a tie and wand, stands confidently on a leaf-covered path with trees in the background.
I love A's stance here. The wand is a party favor from her HP birthday party the previous summer - I'd created hot glue designs on chopsticks, painted them, and then covered in some shellac stuff.

Child in gray elephant costume playing in a pile of autumn leaves beside an orange pumpkin bucket. Playful, colorful fall setting.
Two housekeeping notes: 1. We had a BILLION mature trees in our neighborhood, and raking sucked so bad. 2. C has always been slightly feral, and it's a blast.

Two children trick-or-treating, one in a shark costume with a pumpkin bucket, the other in a black cloak. Evening suburban setting. House number 2725.
A was the best big sister. This makes my heart so full!

My name is Angie.  I find normal to be largely boring.  I am really lucky to get to spend time behind my camera doing all kinds of fun things, and also super-really annoying my kids by taking a million photos of them.
