Dublin, Ireland - St. Patrick's Cathedral (Part 3) - August 2025

Pretending that anyone reads this, you may remember that our last entry saw the nave part of the cathedral, mostly. This part focuses a little more on the transepts.

We bought the audio tour for the cathedral. I technically had it on, but full disclosure - I didn't really listen to it, I was more interested in the photos. JTD was doing a great job listening and absorbing information, so it was great so that he could point things out to me that were specifically important.

Gothic cathedral interior with tall arched ceilings and three vibrant stained glass windows. Sunlight casts colorful patterns on stone pillars.
The light that came through the stained glass windows way up and to the left there and hit that opposite wall and corner just captivated me. I've got it in a few other photos as we move through this series, but I just think it was lovely.
Historic cathedral interior with ornate wood carvings, hanging flags, and stained glass windows. Arched stonework adds a majestic feel.
The helmets are from the Knights of the Order of St. Patrick, founded by King Charles III in the late 1700s. Notable members of the Order's helmets are here, including the then-Prince of Wales, later Edward VII.

More of that stained glass light.

That stained glass light from a little closer. I love the natural lighting. Very dramatic.
Ornate floor tiles with yellow Celtic knots and floral patterns on a black and green checkered background, creating a vintage look.
This is a special area of floor. JTD let me know that this tile is from the oldest part of the church, I believe the oldest tile left. I don't remember if it's original or not, since this was so many months ago.
Golden eagle lectern in a cathedral with banners and stained glass windows in the background, creating a historic and majestic atmosphere.
I don't know why this lectern is an eagle. I don't really have a reason I photographed it, other than it looked a little bad-ass.
Carved stone statue of a figure holding a book in an ornate church interior. Text reads "How shall they hear without a preacher?"
Black bell in an interior setting with yellow text reading: "To the glory of God and in memory of the coming of the Huguenots to Dublin 1685."
The lighting was a little terrible at different parts of the cathedral, so this is definitely not as crisp as I'd like.

My name is Angie.  I find normal to be largely boring.  I am really lucky to get to spend time behind my camera doing all kinds of fun things, and also super-really annoying my kids by taking a million photos of them.
